Daniel Lynn

Founder, chief executive officer, and chief scientist of BioSecurity Technology in Omaha, Nebraska. Sole inventor on more than 50 United States and international patents in pathogenic control.

Daniel Lynn is the founder, chief executive officer, and chief scientist of BioSecurity Technology, an Omaha, Nebraska company that develops the Bio Safe family of engineered water cleaning and disinfection systems. He is the sole inventor on more than 50 United States and international patents in pathogenic control. BioSecurity Technology serves health care facilities, schools, food processing plants, commercial buildings, and industrial organizations, the places where cleanliness carries real consequences.

The platform begins with something ordinary: water. Bio Safe runs standard cold water through a proprietary engineering process that transforms it into an oxidizing cleaner, then lets it return to oxygen and water once the work is done. That one design choice drives most of what makes the system different in a patient room or on a production floor. Nothing accumulates on a countertop or a door frame. No room has to be emptied while fumes settle. There is nothing in the supply closet to inventory or reorder, because the solution is produced on site and on demand.

BioSecurity Technology delivers the technology as Bio Safe Engineered Water, Bio Safe Gas, and Bio Safe Fogging, through wall mounted commercial units, mobile sanitation carts, and residential kitchen and laundry systems. Company reported third party testing shows a three log reduction of gram negative and gram positive bacteria and viruses on treated surfaces without wiping, with reductions of up to 90 percent in chemical use, up to 90 percent in energy consumption, and roughly half the sanitation labor compared with conventional methods.

The path to that product ran through food processing, and it started in Canada.

Daniel Lynn founded Westman Industrial Services in Brandon, Manitoba, in 1988 and served as chief executive officer until 2003. He then led Ozone International, LLC on Bainbridge Island, Washington, as president and chief executive officer from 2004 to 2006. There he developed two patents, redesigned the company's original devices to eliminate cross contamination, and generated more than $2 million in sales across 50 international clients, including Trident Seafoods Corporation, Maple Leaf Foods, and Pacific Seafood. Applying ozone continuously to conveyor systems during production extended customer production runs from eight hours to as much as 72.

From 2006 to 2014 he worked at Burlington Capital Group in Omaha, first as consulting partner for research and development and later, with Burlington Advisory Company, LLC, as executive vice president of research and development. The subject was food sanitation and nothing else: hard surface sanitation, pathogen reduction, shelf life extension, food safety compliance. He and a research team of three installed more than 200 systems in seafood, meat, and poultry processing facilities, including Tyson Foods, General Mills, Nestle, Kikkoman, Simmons Foods, Inc., Ozark Mountain Poultry, and Freshwater Fish, and developed 20 domestic and international patents along the way. Client facilities reported cutting chemical cleaning costs by roughly 80 percent, lowering energy consumption 80 percent, and reducing sanitation labor nearly by half. During those years he also traveled to Russia and the Republic of Georgia to help address a major salmonella outbreak, and he founded Food Safety Technology LLC to transfer sanitation intellectual property into a sister company.

From 2014 through 2018 Lynn served as chief scientist at Pathogenic Control Technologies in Omaha, directing a $300,000 research budget under OSHA and ISO 9000 standards and leading the company's expansion into food service. Customers during that period included McDonald's, IHOP Restaurants, LLC, Fresh Direct, and Vocelli Pizza.

In 2019, Daniel Lynn founded BioSecurity Technology to carry more than 30 years of food safety, ozone, and pathogen control research beyond the plant and into buildings of every kind, among them health care, education, manufacturing, and commercial facilities. Organizations that have put the technology to work include BMW, General Motors, Whirlpool, Credit Suisse, and Fiserv.

Daniel Lynn earned a Master of Science in Applied Science and Technology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management through Manitoba's Ministry of Colleges and Universities. He also holds a diploma in Agro terrorism and Bio Security from the University of Tennessee. He is certified as a Clinical Investigator by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and completed the FDA program in public health safety, security, and bioterrorism. He serves as an expert on agroterrorism and biosecurity for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is recognized internationally for his work involving ozone effectiveness, pathogen control, and engineered water applications.

The patents remain the clearest record of the work. Filed under Daniel W. Lynn, they include the Reaction Vessel for an Ozone Cleaning System (U.S. Patent 8,075,705), the Aqueous Ozone Solution for Ozone Cleaning System (U.S. Patent 8,071,526), and the Air Decontamination Unit (U.S. Patent 8,747,737), along with the Ozonated Liquid Dispensing Unit patent family filed throughout Canada, Europe, Japan, India, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Ukraine, as well as methods for controlling microorganisms in retort cooling water and hydrogen sulfide using ozone gas. Technologies developed by Daniel Lynn, at BioSecurity Technology and at the research organizations that preceded it, are used by more than 200 of North America's leading seafood, meat, and poultry processors and by Fortune 500 companies internationally. He has published three articles in the International Foods Journal and received an international technology award from CBRE.

Lynn serves on the board of the Nebraska Association for Food Protection and belongs to the International Association for Food Protection, the International Ozone Association, and the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates. Through BioSecurity Technology he publishes and presents on engineered water, antimicrobial technology, food safety, pathogen control, and the part ice plays in foodborne illness. Much of that work challenges conventional assumptions. He writes about chemical residue, cross contamination, occupational exposure, and the hidden ways pathogens move through a building, carried room to room by the people who work there.

His current research runs toward biofilm control and removal, which he believes is the next real advance in the field, across residential, commercial, and industrial settings. The goal he describes is plain enough and still a long way off: facilities where contamination is a manageable problem rather than a permanent condition, and where the people responsible for cleaning are not exposed to something harmful in the course of doing their jobs. Daniel Lynn continues to lead BioSecurity Technology from Omaha, Nebraska, directing its research, product development, intellectual property, and commercialization work.
